About this app

In February 1946, the curtain was drawn back on the world's most powerful machine. ENIAC - the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer - filled an entire room at the University of Pennsylvania, weighed 30 tons, consumed 150 kilowatts of power, and could perform 5,000 additions per second. Nothing like it had ever existed. Now you can stand inside it. A Museum You Can Walk Through ENIAC for Vision Pro places you inside a full-scale, spatially accurate recreation of the original machine. Walk along the towering banks of cabinets. Examine the thousands of vacuum tubes that glowed at the rear of each panel. Stand at the mobile function tables where operators once configured lookup values by hand. Discover the History Select the information labels to learn about each section of the machine: the accumulators, the multiplier unit, the constant transmitters, the IBM card reader and printer. Uncover the story of the six women who programmed it, the US Army problem it was built to solve, and the decade of continuous operation that followed its unveiling. It's big! If you don't have room to walk the full length of the machine, teleport directly to any point of interest. The Numbers 18,000 vacuum tubes · 70,000 resistors · 6,000 switches · 30 tons · 1,800 sq ft · 150 kW · operational 1946–1955 Credits The reference used in this experience draw on the meticulous documentation work of Dr Brian Stuart, whose physical survey and working simulation of ENIAC have made it possible for a new generation to encounter this landmark machine.
