About this app
Akimbolt puts your Android phone on your Mac. Texts, calls, copy/paste, notifications and files arrive straight from the phone in your pocket to the Mac in front of you, so you can answer without picking it up. Your photos come across on their own. Pair once by scanning a QR code. After that the two find each other whenever they are on the same Wi-Fi. MESSAGES Whole conversations in a proper Mac window, pictures included. Reply with a keyboard instead of a thumb. Start a new one by typing a number or picking a contact. If your phone has two SIMs, choose which one sends. WHATSAPP AND GOOGLE MESSAGES Open both inside Akimbolt, each signed in to the account on the phone it belongs to. Google Messages brings your RCS chats, which the texts view cannot show. These pages reach the services' own servers; the rest of Akimbolt stays on your own network. CALLS When your phone rings, the buttons appear here. Answer, decline, mute or hang up without reaching for it, and call back from your call history or contacts. NOTIFICATIONS Your phone's notifications become real Mac notifications. Reply to a message from the banner and it clears on the phone as well. Silence an app you do not want to hear from, or mute everything for an hour. VERIFICATION CODES When a login code arrives by text, it appears here ready to copy in one click. FILES Browse your phone's storage with thumbnails, drag files either way, and pick up where you left off if the Wi-Fi drops. PHOTO BACKUP New photos and videos copy to your Mac by themselves, into a folder you choose or straight into the Photos app, filed by the date they were taken. Pick the albums, decide whether videos come too, and set how far back to go. Nothing is ever deleted, on either device, and you can see exactly what has been copied. CLIPBOARD Copy on one, paste on the other. NOW PLAYING Whatever the phone is playing sits in your menu bar, with play, pause and skip. DO NOT DISTURB A Focus here can silence your phone, and a phone on Do Not Disturb stops interrupting you twice. EIGHT PHONES Work and personal stay separate, each with its own messages, notifications and files. NO CLOUD, NO ACCOUNT There are no servers. Everything travels between your own two devices across your own network. There is no sign-up, nothing stored online, no analytics and no tracking. Pairing performs an X25519 key exchange from the QR code; everything after is AES-256-GCM encrypted, with separate keys per device and fresh session keys on every reconnection. Messages, calls and contacts are held in memory while the app runs and never written to disk. REQUIRES The free Akimbolt app on an Android phone running 8.0 or later, and both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
Latest release
What’s New
WhatsApp and Google Messages can now be used inside Akimbolt via their web apps. This release also steadies the connection: quicker reconnects, file transfers that pick up after a Wi-Fi drop, picture messages that appear as they arrive, and smoother handling when several phones are connected at once.
