About this app

School is closed about thirty days a year. Most of them aren't summer, and you usually find out a week ahead. Open Spots reads your school district's calendar and lays the whole year out — every in-service day, conference day, mid-winter break and random Friday — then helps you find camps that cover them. WHAT IT DOES • Your district's actual calendar. 42 Greater Seattle districts, built from the PDFs and scanned notices schools send out. Pick yours once. • Per kid, not per household. A conference day that's elementary-only isn't a problem for your middle schooler, and the plan knows the difference. • Thousands of Seattle-area camps, searchable by age, dates, distance and price. • Tell me when something appears. Watch a week you can't cover and get a notification when a camp is newly listed for it — including in December, for next summer, months after you last opened the app. WHAT IT WON'T DO It won't tell you a camp has space when we don't know. Plenty of providers never publish whether they're full, and when that's the case the app says so instead of guessing. It won't show you a made-up price. And it takes no registrations and no payments — you register on the provider's own site, which is always the authoritative source. Camp listings are a commodity. Knowing which eight days in February your kid has nowhere to be is not, and that's what this is for. NO ACCOUNT NEEDED Search and plan without signing up for anything. Your kids and your settings stay on your phone. An email is only needed if you want a week alert, and Settings → Delete my data removes everything, from your phone and from our servers. Open Spots is free. Greater Seattle only, for now.
